June 2016 – Hosted week-long STEM-Law Summer Camp at Mary Munford Elementary School

June 2017 – Sponsored Forensics UnCut Workshop at Manchester Middle School teaching 120 kids how Law Enforcement officials use STEM to solve crimes

Summer 2016 – Sponsored STEM-Law Forensic Camp for elementary and middle-school age youth on fingerprinting, crime scene analysis and legal argument

2016 – current Continued relationship with undergraduate and graduate students to participate in learning through service. VCU students provide leadership and instruction to kids

2016 – current VCU School of Engineering served as the host facility for our 2017 Winter Camp with NSBE; 72 kids graduated from this 8 week program with the Richmond Police Department, VCU and the VA Department of Forensic Science

2017- current – Co-hosted Winter 2017 Forensics Camp at VCU with NSBE and celebrated 72 graduates, 15 VCU students and multiple community stakeholders

2005 – current ; continued partnership for youth development and mentorship; Michael Edwards serves as Region 2 NSBE Liaison for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC)

Partnered with LULAC to deliver multiple STEM programs; LULAC is, the oldest surviving Latino civil rights organization in the U.S., to deliver multiple inclusive programs to increase Latina HS graduation rates

2016 – currently partnering with Richmond Police Department Communiity Outreach program to provide expertise in how law enforcement officials work with STEM experts to solve crimes and keep communities safe

2016 – 2016 – currently partnering with Petersburg Major Crime Division to demonstrate how police officials secure crime scenes and work with Forensic Scientist to solve crimes

2017 – currently DFS provides the STEM-Law program subject matter expertise to our youth programs as one of the most-recognized nationally accredited forensic laboratory system in the US.

In 2018, STEM Law partnered with NSBE to deliver our Great STEM Escape Room to over 150 students during the 44th NSBE Convention in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Students completed STEM activities, solved mathematical riddles and puzzles to navigate through our escape rooms in competition with other NSBE Jr. Chapters.

In 2018, RMEP partnered with the STEM Law program to deliver its Forensics UnCut curriculum to over 300 students at Virginia State University and Virginia Commonwealth Universities. These programs continue to expose minority youth to the many engineering opportunities available to them.

Our organization worked with these schools to win two (2) separate Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grants in the amount of $5,000.00. In this last grant award period there was 563 schools awarded this grant across the U.S., with 17(only 3%) of those winners being here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are proud to say that Boushall Middle and JB Fisher are a part of that three percent. We are thrilled to partner with RPS and our local Lowe’s store provider to deliver what we know will be great school improvement projects.
