During the Summer of 2016, the STEM-Law Education Initiative hosted a camp in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Richmond Parks and Recreation, and the Richmond Public School System (Mary Munford Elementary School) to host this one of a kind Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – Law (STEM-Law) Summer Camp experience.
The camp was held at Mary Munford Elementary School near historic Cary Town in Richmond, Virginia. The camp introduced 25 elementary and middle school age youth to a “mock” crime scene. Kids used understanding from our classroom instruction, results from experiments they performed, and interaction with our criminal instructors and experts to present their case analysis.
Students then role-played and presented their arguments to experienced attorneys. Students learned a lot about STEM and how STEM influences the legal profession. They also were introduced to the many STEM careers in the legal profession.
